Stick It Out

We’ve all been there at some point.

Whether it be in a PuG or with friends, your group ends up wiping on a boss or, heck, even a bad trash pull.  Then one impatient (and/or intolerant) bozo decides to drop group.  Then someone else drops and before you know it you’re back in the queue all by yourself.  It’s unfortunate, because most of the time, just working through the mistakes made can end up paying off in the end.

The biggest pay-off is learning.  Learning the strategies and the fight mechanics will mean that it will be easier the next time you face the encounter.  Whether it be five minutes later after you wipe or tomorrow when you hop in the dungeon again.  Or you may just be learning how to adjust to the rest of the group should you be in a PuG or grouped with Alts.  On top of that, you can learn when it’s best to use your cool-downs and push the limits of your character (DPS, heals, or tanking tools).  Maybe it takes up to three, five, or ten times to get it, but as long as you’re learning and adapting, it’s worth it; you’re becoming a better player.

The secondary pay-offs are the rewards and the sense of accomplishment.  The rewards being JP’s/VP’s and, of course, phat lewtz!  The sense of accomplishment will vary depending on the situation.  Varying from “Thank goodness, this dungeon is over,” to something as wonderful, “Hot damn, it was great to finish this with my friends!  VICTORY IS OURS!”

So, when you’re getting frustrated with a certain fight or run, just remember that if you stick it out to the end, it may end up being worth every minute of the struggle.  Just hang in there and do your best!

Take care and have fun, folks.

– Darth

Now, here’s some music for fun:

PS – A special thanks to The Zug Initiative.  We had a couple of tough Zul’roic runs this weekend, but thanks for sticking it out and getting those bastards sorted out!

We’re seven months into the Cataclysm expansion.

It’s been eight or nine months since I’ve “actively” raided.

Sure, sure…The Zug Initiative has done some older raids and tried to keep relatively active.  But really, times have been a little slow at TZI for a plethora of reasons.  As such, we really didn’t try (or consider?) raiding post-Cata launch.  I’m sure you already knew this because you’re dedicated followers, but our dear friend Hello Tauren! already covered a couple of reasons.  (Out of those, I’d put lack of attendance as the leading cause.  But hey, life happens.)

With the changes of Patch 4.2, there’s been some murmurs of getting back into raiding.  We’ve gotten some decent upgrades from the new Justice Point gear, we’ve put some extra efforts into gearing up in some dungeons, and attendance is on the rise a bit.  Heck, even the other day we had a full ten people online.

So, we’re going to do some raiding this weekend.  Nerfed T11 stuff…but hey, it’s new to us.  And we’re doing it with friends.  That means one simple thing:  FUN. 😀

The scary thing is…I’m nowhere near prepared.  I haven’t researched the fights, watched any of the videos, stocked up on flasks and food.  I also probably need to tweak my gems, talents, and enchants.   I don’t even know what bosse we SHOULD try (other than Baradin Hold, assuming we have it.)

I’m getting some weird pre-raiding jitters and it’s still two days away.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

Not only am I kinda late at giving Patch 4.2 tips, I’m late to other things.

I’m a V.I.P.

You know how I know?!

BECAUSE MY TICKETS TO SOUNDGARDEN SAY SO!!!

(Sorry, this is totally unrelated to WoW and I haven’t even finished the 20 Days of Blogging…)

BUT I’M FREAKIN’ STOKED!

They’ve been my favourite band since, ooh, about 1991 when my sister introduced me to them while we lived in Germany.  She saw them play in Frankfurt, the lucky monkey!

(I realize that I”m showing my age…there may be a reader or two out there that didn’t exist in 1991.)

They broke up in 1997.  That made me a sad panda.  They got back together in 2010 and now they’re touring again.  And I get to be a part of that!  BwAhahahahahahahahahahah!!!

Anyway, just had to share that before I spontaneously combusted.

Carry on.

Day 13:  People (Players/bloggers) I Admire

Firstly, pretty much every blogger I read, I admire to some degree.  Some for their writing; some for their knowledge of the game; some for their skill with the game.

But as far as players go, I would say it is the people that still think of WoW as a game.  Those folk seem to have the most fun with it.

Unlike a lot of games, WoW has many facets and is quite in depth, even if you disregard that it’s an MMO.  Many [or most?] of us tend to put a lot more time and devotion into WoW than we would other games.  (Other than RISK of course.)  Also, as per design, more time and effort is required should you wish to experience WoW to its fullest extent.  As such, we can often find ourselves making a game feel like work.  While I can appreciate why people do it, I don’t necessarily agree with games getting to that point.  I know I have to take a step back or changes things up if it gets to that point for me.  But it doesn’t get that way for everyone.  Plenty of people still play the game because it’s simply fun for them.

So, yeah, if you still have fun with the game, then *I* admire *YOU*.  Trufax.

Buddy of mine is in this band, so I’m showing some support*:

* – I hope the link works.  Apparently it didn’t save properly the first time around.  Please let me know if you can actually see the video “Awake” by The Autumn Portrait.
