Dechion recently posted an entry that started as a comment on this blog. I started to comment on that post and decided that my comment needed a post of its own.
As he pointed out, there have been a number of developments in WoW that detract a bit from the social aspect of the game.
I was annoyed by some aspects of the Guild Perks for a while but it no longer bothers me and LFD PuGs to me seems like something you do if you don’t have enough guildies on.
But one thing that continues to annoy me is that a lot of the Cataclysm questing really doesn’t work well if you are in a group.
I play a lot with my partner. We’ve had a few leveling pairs over the years but the warrior / shaman combo has been the most enduring. When Cata hit they were the first pair to go out and see the new world.
However, there seem to be a large number of quests where it is simply not possible to play with another person.
Uldum has been the worst culprit so far but it has happened in other zones too. During a quest, you will find yourself out of phase with everyone else, including people who you are grouped with and who are on the same quest. Anything you do in this scenario will not count for the rest of your group.
The worst case was doing the quests Missing Pieces and Reduced Productivity in Uldum. These are done together and involve killing mobs (credit shared) and pickup up stuff (credit not shared). However, as soon as you have completed the objectives for both quests you go running off in a cutscene, leaving you unable to help your partner complete the quest.
She picked up her last Ancient Copper Scroll and vanished.
Is this really working as intended?
