We recently did the ICC Plague and Blood wings for the first time since patch 4.0.1. The guild just hadn’t managed to raid much lately due to a variety of real-life commitments (babies, jobs, visits, etc.) so it was nice to get back there.
However, one thing has become very clear after healing those wings again: Nourish is now really terrible!
I had read up on all the changes and have run some instances so I knew it was different, but I hadn’t really appreciated just how bad it was. But every time I cast it during the run I regretted having done so, generally half way through the cast when I thought it should have finished already. According to the logs, I suffered Nourish-related regret thirty-eight times before I swapped my Nourish and Regrowth keys.
If I’m tank-healing at level 85 I may learn to appreciate Nourish but currently I feel that there is never a case where it is the best spell to cast. Regrowth has about 60% of the cast time, heals for at least as much, crits more often and HoTs the target. And if you Nourish a target without a HoT it’s even worse.
Sure, Regrowth costs four times as much mana, but if I need to cast a direct heal I need it to be a good one.
I’m considering modifying my spec to get rid of all Nourish-related talents. I figure with the extra mana from Furor I can afford to splurge on the pricier (but much better) Regrowth.
Then I can move Nourish to an inaccessible section of my toolbar and ignore it for a few levels.
Until then, Nourish keeps making me think of the Annie Hall quote, “The food here is terrible, and the portions are too small.”
