Summer hasn’t fully hit yet, but it will soon enough.
And that means people are taking time off and going on vacations, leaving WoW behind for a short while. I will be one of those people as well.
We are also anxiously awaiting the expansion, Cataclysm.
As such, we are going to see a double-whammy of relative inactivity in Azeroth over the next couple of months. Vacationers and Taking-a-break-before-new-content-ers. We’re already seeing it with many WoW bloggers; some switching shops, some posting significantly less, and some flat-out quitting.
But that isn’t what’s bothering me about it. What I find discouraging is that I’m feeling it as well.
I won’t go as far as saying that WoW is boring – I am still having a blast going into ICC with the guild and sometimes pugging 25 mans.
But running random heroics on a daily basis for 3 characters tends to be a bit tedious. I may level my DK for a bit on weekends when he has plenty of “rested” XP, but I do dungeons in between quests. So I’m seeing most of those same dungeons/heroics that I’ve seen hundreds of times on my multiple 80’s. I know there’s stuff to do in-game (achievements, alts, etc.), but it doesn’t help that I’ve been playing the game for over four years. Again, it’s not that it’s boring, nor do I feel “burnt out”. But it isn’t exactly fresh, either. Though, I’m certain that Cataclysm will abate the staleness, it’s not even in Beta testing yet. It is easily a few months away.
As a result, I sometimes ponder taking up another game. Or possibly take up something on the PS3. Maybe I should try another MMO? The concept of EVE Online intrigues me and is playable on a Mac. Or now that Steam is available on Mac, should get back into TF2? (Well, once it’s opened up.) Or hell – do I brave the evil and scary outdoors?
Is there a cure for the pre-expansion lull? Especially when it’s coupled with summer and [potentially] absent raiders?
So many questions!
Will the release of the Ruby Sanctum help? Maybe it will help a little to quell the pre-expansion lull. But I’m pretty sure it won’t prevent any vacations, either.
So, how are you dealing with this? Are you even feeling this “lull”? Are you seeing this in your respective guilds?
Inquiring minds (well, mine, at least) want to know!
PS: No, I’m not planning on quitting WoW. I wanted to stop the rumours before they made their way accross the internet and existence as we know it would implode upon itself. 😉
