I was healing a random heroic on my druid recently and Culling of Stratholme came up.
The run was going well. After the first couple of pulls I switched to caster form and did some DPS when it became apparent how little healing was needed. We tear through the place, knocking off the optional boss with about 15 minutes to spare. All DPS were putting out 4K or more.
Then we hit Mal’Ganis.
After a brief fight, the little banner flashes up, we get our emblems and I start typing the usual, “Thanks, all,” when I notice we are still in combat. I’m guessing that he was pushed to zero health too quickly and therefore refused to run away.
I had a similar thing happen with Overlord Mok’Morokk while working on Loremaster. He refused to run away and stayed at 1 health, allowing me to level some of my weapon skills on him.
Anyway, after some laughing the tank told people just to drop the group and he would take the repair hit. Most did, but I suggested we could probably kite him out of the instance and exit that way.
With only two of us in the group he always cast sleep on me, but then usually woke me up with a mind blast. However, since sleep has a cast time this meant the paladin quickly got way ahead of him. Then I was left behind and couldn’t close the distance until we got outside.
Arthas was running along hitting Mal’Ganis the whole time. I was kind of hoping he’d die from getting hit by the cone attack but he alas he lived.
Eventually, we get outside and I get caught up using travel form just as the pally makes it to the exit. He goes through the portal and is teleported back in on top of Mal’Ganis.
At this point the tank reiterates that I should just drop the group, so I thank him and then do so.
At any rate, Callixtus of Kirin-Tor, thanks for the amusing run.
I really should have taken some screenshots.
Update: A quick look at the bug report forums indicates this is bug is as old as Wrath and therefore probably less interesting than I thought it was. Apparently it is caused by having a pally in your group or tanking him on the stairs or something else.
So the moral of the story is “It’s the pally’s fault”??? 🙂
Only in that Arthas is a pally.
It’s always his fault.
the solution? have an option to aid the time traveling dragons and kill arthas for his emo whining
I played a paladin and had that happen to me three times. Ticket a GM and sit there, and between 1-3 hours later, a GM will kill Mal’Ganis for you and whomever has the patience and time to wait will get to loot the chest.
Is this fixed yet?
It was only a couple weeks ago, so I’m guessing it isn’t.
At least you get your badges now when this happens even though you can’t loot the boss.
