** April 23, 2011 Edit: A more up-to-date “big crit” post can be found here. **
There was one part that stood out for me, though:
If you’re running Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom…NEVER steal Icy Winds from those skellies on top of the pillars. Obviously, stealing the spell makes the spell a buff, and you can easily cancel it, but Icy Winds is horrible.
Well, I disagree – if you’re playing as a frost mage. You’ll score the most damage ever to exist in WoW.
As I said, running through “OK” as a frost mage, I’d say that buff might be worth it. Yes, it slows down your cast times by 50%, but it boosts your frost damage by 75%. Pretty fair trade off is anything is going to live long enough. Fortunately for you, there are two giants as part of the trash on the way to the Prince vampire boss. (And some AoE’d geists!)
Now, I happened to be noodling around with my Frost spec while doing some heroics. And I happened to be in the exact aforementioned situation. And one big, fat bonus happened – my Fingers of Frost happened to proc while taking out one of the giants. Normally, on trash, a frost mage would just keep shooting frostbolts. BUT! Those giants are immune to the stun from Deep Freeze, so that means hitting it with DF will result in piles of damage.
So, a FoF Proc + Deep Freeze + Icy Winds stolen buff = one 42k crit.
I would provide a screen shot if, a) I had one, and b) I was on my WoW computer – but I’m not. So you’ll just have to believe me that when the ol’ damage indicator popped up – the first two numerals of a five digit number were ‘4’ and ‘2’. I tell you no lies, my friends. It DID happen. I landed a 42k crit, damnit!
As such, I’m also going to claim it as “The largest Non-Crazy-Mechanic damage ever done in World of Warcraft.” That “non-crazy mechanic” of course includes damage from vehicles or mounts or some crazy boss mechanic where your damage gets boosted by over 9000. Remember – I was clearing trash when I scored this!
Have you seen bigger damage than that? Tell me about it! Provide proof if you can!
(Yes, I know – it’s a double standard if I ask for proof and can’t provide my own… I’ll take a leap of faith in your story if I must. 😉 )
