As you may or may not be aware, one of the things coming with Cataclysm is guild ranking.
With that, there are guild achievements and guild experience to be earned. And as your guild levels, there are various perks available to guild member. There is also guild reputation, which is probably to discourage guild-hopping.
Anyway, if you don’t read World of Matticus, he has put up an excellent introduction to guild advancement HERE.
Overall, it sounds pretty neat, although I hope it isn’t overly difficult for smaller guilds like ours to advance. But I’ll guess we’ll see.
What are your thoughts on the guild advancement/achievement system?
I’m excited by the guld achievment/advancement system. I loved achievements before ~ I will LOVE them even more because it means that I’ll be contributing to the guild! Whee!
ACHIEVEMENT WHORES UNITE!
Seriously, I’m very interested to see how a small guild like ours, with only 10 to 15 people in it, does with this new system.
I’m really interested to see if some of the guild achievements will be retro-active. Hmm.. however, I would presume they wouldn’t be. If Cata has been overhauled to be more user friendly to new players, making the lower dungeon achievements count towards guild achievements would be important….
TLTR ~ I’ve got lots and lots of thoughts!
Chawa, from my understanding, all the new guild related achievements being introduced in cataclysm or 4.0.1 will not be retroactive.
Exception would be We Are Legendary (obtain 6 legendaries within the guild).
Not sure how it will pan out, but I am sure that large guilds will have a ginormous advantage.
Ever since they did away with the concept that th top ten or twenty guildies points would count on any given week, they paved the way for 600 member mega-guilds.
I think they put the upper limit on it to prevent every server from having one giant guild on each faction with seperate chat channels for the diferent sub-groups. (raiders, pvpers, RPers, etc)
I hope it goes well for us, but I think it will be badly skewed against smaller guilds, unfortunately.
Meh – all it means is that I really have to start up that Goblin Warrior alt I’ve been eying to contribute to the guild’s point total. If we go slower, we go slower; it’s not like we’ll have any less fun on the way.

Exactly what I think too! I figure guild achievements such as “Classy Act” ~ getting a Lv85 in every class ~ will come with time. There’s no rush. Any guild level bonus we open up is just that, a bonus!
Guilds who care about that sort of thing may use it as proof that they have the biggest GPeen and some raiders will hop guilds for better benefits.
I see no drawbacks for us, though.
It will give us benefits that we didn’t have before and we get to have more achievements popping up in /G, which a lot of us like.
I think it will be fun.
The more achievements the better in my opinion! I don’t think it will have much bearing on our guild. Where we are small in number we are mighty in alts!
Eyeing that mount. Working on reps as fast as i can.
